David Shortland was articled to Robinson Osborne & Moules in September in 1972 and qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1980, becoming a partner in 1982. ROM was a large local firm of chartered surveyors specialising in all types of residential and commercial property agency including development.
In March 1989, David was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and in September of the same year he was appointed a Main Board Director of Countrywide Surveyors and Chairman of Midlands and the Northern regions. In 1994, he was appointed a Main Board Director of Countrywide Commercial. In May 1995, David left the company to form the companies of Shortland Horne Residential and New Homes Limited, Shortland Horne Land and Development Limited and Shortland Horne Commercial and Professional Limited. David is also one of founding partners of Bluemark Developments; a planning and development company which has brought large amounts of land through planning process to be sold to end developers.
David’s appointments include being a director of the Alan Higgs Centre and chaiman of The Belgrade Theatre. David was also awarded an honorary doctorate by Coventry University for services to the regeneration of Coventry. He is also a Freeman of the city of Coventry.
Outside of work David’s interests include travel, football (he is an Associate Director of Coventry City Football Club), golf, cricket, the arts and his family.
